Real Madrid FC Team History

Madrid FC were founded in 1902 and didn’t become Real Madrid until 1920 when King Alfonso gave them the title ‘Real’ (which means Royal), and also gave them the Crown crest. From 1956 to 1965 Real were unbeaten at home – for an amazing 121 matches; they are the only Spanish club to win La Liga five successive seasons, a feat they managed twice. Madrid’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona & their biggest win against them came in the Copa del Rey in 1942/43, an 11-1 victory; local rivals Atletico lost to Real in last year’s Champions League final.

Real Madrid have won a record 32 La Liga titles, 18 Copas del Rey, 9 Supercopas de Espana, a Copa Eva ... Read moreDuarte and a Copa de la Liga. Internationally they have won a record ten European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles and a joint record three Intercontinental Cups, as well as two UEFA Cups and one UEFA Super Cup.

Player Records

Cristiano Ronaldo cost Real Madrid FC £80 million in 2009 but is looking like a bargain; at the end of 2013/14 he had scored 252 goals in just 246 appearances and in season 2011/12 he scored 60 goals and got a hat-trick in under 10 minutes against Sevilla – it seems like every time he steps on the pitch he breaks another record. Raul holds the record for most appearances with 741 in sixteen years, scoring 323 goals along the way. The great Di Stefano scored 305 goals in 392 games for Real but who’d bet against Ronaldo breaking that record too?
